New and Re-Compiled Packages

These are the packages I’ve either built or recompiled for crunchbang on my Aspire One. Even though Ubuntu tends to be more bleeding edge than I care to use, some of its packages are either outdated (missing vital fixes, not merely having a smaller release number than is available) or otherwise undesirable.

Compiled and installed unless otherwise noted:

  • linux-image-2.6.30.1-aspire-one_i386.deb
  • mew_6.2-1_i386.deb (wanted improvements and no extra libs)
  • libmtp_0.3.7-7_i386.deb (includes mtp-tools)
  • ratpoison_1.4.5-1_i386.deb (xterm=aterm, etc.)
  • wifiroamd_1.15_1_i386.deb (NOT YET INSTALLED)

To Do:

  • rebuild the above (optimize i686)
  • aterm (performance of repo package unsatisfactory)
  • find more apps that can be streamlined
  • rebuild mtpfs

Notes:

  • Installed new kernel based on the sickboy/kuki config with several changes (e. g., Bluetooth, CIFS, etc., as modules rather than in-kernel). Result was much smaller kernel and ability to load only what I need when I need it.
  • libmtp compiled from Debian-Sid source and latest patch. Original Ubuntu version segfaulted when used with my Samsung S3. My package resulted in much improved handling of the S3.
  • Upgraded mew for improvements and without libs/packages I likely won’t use much (such as Hyper Estraier).
  • ratpoison upgraded and compiled for preferred terminal.
